A military helicopter crash in Ghana has resulted in the deaths of Defense Minister Edward Oman Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with all others on board. A government spokesperson confirmed the incident to British news outlet BBC.

Details of the Crash

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in Ghana’s Central Ashanti region. Earlier, authorities reported that the helicopter, carrying five passengers including the two ministers and three military crew members, had disappeared from radar. Later, it was confirmed that six additional people also lost their lives in the crash.

Presidential Office Confirmation

In an official statement, the Office of the President of Ghana confirmed that all passengers aboard the ill-fated helicopter were killed. Among the victims were Defense Minister Edward Oman Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Ministerial Background

Edward Oman Boamah had taken office as Defense Minister earlier this year following President John Mahama’s swearing-in in January. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed was serving as the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.

National Mourning and Condolences

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss, Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, said:
"The President and the government express profound sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased ministers and military personnel. They gave their lives in service to the nation."
