A powerful earthquake in Russia

A powerful earthquake has once again struck Russia’s Kuril Islands, registering a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) confirmed the information, according to Reuters.

On Saturday (August 9), the quake in this seismically active region originated at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) beneath the Earth’s surface. So far, there have been no reports of casualties, and details of any damage remain unknown.

Earlier, on July 30, Russia was hit by one of the strongest earthquakes in recent history, with a magnitude of 8.7. That event prompted tsunami warnings in at least 14 countries across the Pacific region, and waves of nearly four meters were observed along the Kamchatka coast in Russia’s Far East.
