The 164th birth anniversary of Biswakabi Rabindranath Tagore will be celebrated across Bangladesh tomorrow with a series of programmes in Shilaidaha, Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia, and other locations closely associated with the poet’s life.
In addition to Shilaidaha, commemorative events will also take place in Patisar (Naogaon), Shahjadpur (Sirajganj), and Dakkhindihi and Pithavog (Khulna)—places tied to Tagore’s legacy.
A three-day cultural festival will begin in Shilaidaha, jointly organised by the Department of Archaeology under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Kushtia District Administration. The event will feature discussions, music, and poetry recitations, with eminent scholar Professor Monsur Musa delivering the keynote speech.
The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has also announced a three-day programme including cultural performances and an exhibition showcasing Tagore’s artwork. Meanwhile, Bangla Academy will hold a special discussion to mark the occasion.
Bangladesh's embassies abroad will also honour the day with observances and events.
To commemorate the occasion, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Shilpakala Academy will publish 600 souvenirs and 20,000 posters.
Rabindranath Tagore, regarded as the fountainhead of Bengali literature and culture, was born on 25th Baishakh, 1268 of the Bengali calendar, at Jorasanko Thakurbari in Kolkata.
