Polytechnic students set to resume classes as shutdown eased
Students from various polytechnic institutes in Dhaka and across the country have announced a temporary pause to their indefinite campus shutdown and will return to classrooms starting Wednesday.
However, they made it clear that they will not participate in examinations, form fill-ups, or other academic activities until their six-point demands—focused on job opportunities, promotions, and access to quality higher education—are fulfilled.
The announcement came during a press briefing at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, following a joint meeting held at the same venue.
The students had locked down their campuses since April 29 as part of an indefinite shutdown movement. The protests originally began on April 16, with students blocking roads, highways, and railway tracks across the country, including in Dhaka, causing widespread public disruption in an effort to press for their demands.
